The flower head is formed of 12-18 bracts fused at 1/3 to less than middle of length. This is the major distinctive feature to identify this species. The yellow-colored ray flowers are made of 6-13 petals, the ligules come in yellow having 5-10 mm. The yellow disk flowers are multiple, and anther tops are linear to ovate-shaped.
The corolla is usually made of 5 lobs. The flowers are followed by club-formed fruits, lacking any hairs. They are blackish or gray, having the width of about 1.5 mm.
This spring-flowering plant is quite uncommon and is valued by its outstanding appearance.
